The Daily Clog » Let's talk makeup: White Eyeliner

white eyelinerThe Clog’s back again with another shout out to the lovely women on – you know it – make up tips. Previously, we shared with you a simple, foolproof way on how to clean your makeup brushes with a budget-friendly and still very effective method. Next up is another little tool that you might find useful: white eyeliner.

Highlighting, girls. We’re all familiar with it. Definition is what we’re going for and this thing alone can amp up your makeup in a way that counts with rather minimal effort. White eyeliner helps create the illusion of light hitting certain parts of your face and bringing more attention to it by brightening the area.

Where would we apply this white eyeliner/highlighting pencil? Here are the usual options: inner corner of eyes, eyebrow ridge, bottom lash line’s waterline, and your upper lip’s cupid bow.

1. Inner corner of eyes
Your eyes will look bigger and brighter. Almost as if your eyes are light-sucking machines that are just absolutely irresistible. Okay, that’s an exaggeration but trust us, this makes a difference.
Application: Small, concentrated smudge on the inner corners of your eyes. With your finger, start smudging it more and spread around, like a V; your body warmth will melt the eyeliner down.

2. Eyebrow ridge
Imagine a spotlight hitting your face from an angle. Parts of your face that jut out, such as your nose and eyelashes, are struck by the light the most. A shadow is formed by those features as well. In this case, highlighting your eyebrow ridge makes it seem like your eyes are deeper in your face.
Application: Pencil on a streak of white on your ridge (from where your eyebrow arch starts to the end of the eyebrow) and then smudge with your fingers. Make sure to smudge to the point that it does not look like a line. Apply on as much as desired.

3. Bottom lash line’s waterline
This tip will make your eyes look alert, wider, and more open. Although not a perfect illusion, it makes it seem like the waterline is a part of the whites of your eyes, which accounts for why it makes your eyes look larger than they are.
Application:
Obviously do not use a freshly sharpened pencil. Carefully line your waterline and take care not to accidentally jab your eye.

4. Upper lip’s cupid bow
In general, anyone who would like to flaunt their lips in the most minimal way possible should consider using this tip. Women out there with pouty, eye-catching lips or perfectly shaped cupid’s bows especially could benefit from this. Your lips and pout will nab a bit more definition.
Application:
Draw a small smudge on your cupid’s bow and fade with your finger.

Given, you could do all this with silver or white eyeshadow as well, but the pros of white eyeliner pencil is one, it’s slim and doesn’t take up much space in a makeup bag, and two, you don’t have to worry about powder fallout dashed all over your lashes and cheekbones. Nevertheless, it’s up to your personal preference. Finding them at your nearest drugstore is a cinch.

And there you have it. Nah, this isn’t encouragement to bombard your face with pretty, colorful chemicals and whatnot. Hey, we’re all for the minimal, the enhancement of your best features rather than the masking of them.

The Clog concludes with a salute to the female population: Have fun (because we’re having fun, maybe too much fun, with this).
