Review: Sue Devitt's Eye Intensifier Pencil in Laos | Blog | FlauntMe

For the most part, my makeup routine is pretty lackluster - partially from sleep winning out over waking up earlier than I need to get ready and then just the time that it calls for to play around with colors and hope-to-goodness that I don’t mess it up. So for most days, you’ll get foundation, concealer, subtle waterline eyeliner, and possibly mascara. But I had introduced Sue Devitt’s Eye Intensifier Pencil before and what appealed to me was that it wasn’t intimidating-looking to use, since it looks just like a bigger version of my normal eyeliner pencil. So you could say I was half-way familiar with it before I even held it in my hands.

For a bit of info on the Eye Intensifier Pencil itself, it’s marketed as a “Long Lasting, Water-Resistant Eyeliner Pencil” - want you want with most eyeliner pencils, especially if your lids are prone to making eye makeup smudge.

Though the claim that “The Eye Intensifier Pencil can be applied along the base of the eyelid and bottom lash line for an intense smoky look or may be used to create an effortless “quick-eye” with minimal blending for a maximum effect” was what caught my “eye” the most that I couldn’t wait to put it to the test.

The usefully handy addition to this eyeliner from most of the regular eyeliner pencils is its inclusion of an applicator tip, making it pretty take along-friendly if you need to do a touch-up on-the-go. The spongey material is actually moderately firm so it stands up to blending really well.

Color + Application: I had received the color Laos to try and it is simply just a gorgeous bronze color that is speckled with a slight shimmer. Swiping it, the color comes out fairly rich and just really pretty (it got washed out a bit on my camera, bleh.)

Though I was really impressed with how smooth it was to swipe, almost velvety that it just glided like butter on.

L: Smudged with applicator tip | R: Swiped once from pencil tip

The applicator smudge tip also did really well to disperse the solid line of eyeliner out to a really nice smoke, one that would do well to produce that gradient effect that a smokey eye calls for or if you just don’t want the color to be so bold.

Thin line swipe

Even though the pencil tip seems so thick, the control was actually really nice that it applied evenly and without a mess at all.

Thicker coverage/smokey eye-esque attempt

So pretty! While it would pass to wear it alone, I feel like the eyeliner itself feels more suited to be used as an eyeshadow instead, since when wearing it alone (as I would for my regular eyeliner), it feels like something is missing a bit that it needs a touch of an eyeliner edge to make it look complete. Or even as a thicker eyeliner line that the color would peek out from behind a black or brown eyeliner for a hint of color.

Longevity: When it said waterproof, it really meant it. Though it washed off easy enough with makeup remover, with water alone, I was impressed that it didn’t budge at all. Only the minuscule bit with a rub from my finger, but in real-life rain situations, I’d say that it will sit smoothly where you placed it.

Overall: Not bad at all! I actually love the ease in using the Eye Intensifier Pencil that I’ll be reaching for it more in the mornings. With how smooth it goes on, the applicator tip comes in really handy to smoke it out a bit or drag to your undereye line without much thought. The color itself (and the others in the range) seem to match up true to how rich they look, which makes me feel like it’s definitely worth its price.

The only thing is that it probably isn’t replacing my black eyeliner altogether, rather I fine it suited to be used in conjunction.

Score: 4.5/5
